Official Synopsis, Trailer For Mario Van Peebles’ “We The Party” (Michael Jai White, Others)

Official Synopsis, Trailer For Mario Van Peebles’ “We The Party” (Michael Jai White, Others)

I first profiled this film in March on the old site; at the time, I couldn’t find an official synopsis, so wasn’t entirely sure what it was about; although I did post a teaser trailer that gave us some idea – a teaser that’s since been taking down, but, thankfully, it was replaced with a new one, which I embedded below.

As a recap… Shot last summer, but with no distributor yet, and thus no scheduled release date, the film, We The Party (not to be confused with We The Peeples), was previewed at a February screening in Los Angeles, and was apparently well-received.

Mario Van Peebles (who directed and co-stars in it) has been doing lots of publicity for it since then, although it’s without a distributor, and thus no official release date, despite an ensemble cast that includes Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Snoop Dogg, Melvin Van Peebles, Tiny Lister and several other actors and musicians.

Earlier today, I learned that a Facebook page for the film exists (I don’t believe one did at the time of my initial post), and on it, I found an official synopsis which reads: ““We The Party” is a cutting edge hip-hop infused dramedy about the first generation of high schoolers to come of age during the Obama years. The film features some of the latest teenage bands and dance crews.

Still doesn’t reveal much in terms of plot, but at least we have a better idea of what to expect.

Since Mario’s on the marketing trail, I’ll see if we can get an interview with him to talk more about the film. In the meantime, here’s the most recent trailer:

I Really Would Love To Watch This Movie And I Can’t Wait Until It Comes Out

Journeying

Some interesting shots and that is definitely a subculture I don’t know much about and would be up for watching.

Curtis

It is visually catching. Still would like to get a better sense of the actual story though.

Quentin

A directionless trailer with Casio synthesized music score. This promises to be a weak movie…
