How was it working with Steven Spielberg on Super 8? “Crazy good,” says director J.J. Abrams. “Working with Steven Spielberg was a dream, and I was kind of nervous about it because he was like a hero of mine since I was a kid.” Will they work together again? Given how successful Super 8 should prove to be, their already longstanding relationship should continue. Back in February we listed 7 Reasons to be Excited About Super 8. They’re still true, but the movie’s even better than we’d hoped.

So what’s next for these directors?

Abrams is writer-producer on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which opens December 16 starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Lea Seydoux and Josh Holloway. Abrams also has several producing projects in development, including Cloverfield and Star Trek sequels, The Invisible Woman with Cloverfied director Matt Reeves and 7 Minutes in Heaven with Jack Bender.

As for Spielberg, he has loaded up his plate, per usual. He exec-produced this summer’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon (June 29) and Cowboys & Aliens (June 29) as well as DreamWorks’ Hugh Jackman vehicle, Real Steel (October 7), and the long-awaited 2012 Amblin sequel Men in Black III. As director, we’re eagerly awaiting Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin (December 23), War Horse (pictured, December 28), Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis in the title role (2012) and Robopocalypse (2013).
