Steven Spielberg's "War Horse" Trailer Gallops Into Oscar Race

Consider the Oscar race on! The trailer for Steven Spielberg’s anticipated film adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel and subsequent Tony-winning stage play, “War Horse,” hit earlier today and it looks suitably epic.

The World War I-set tale centers on a young man Albert (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse, Joey. When Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches, Albert journeys to France to save his best friend.

Spielberg’s film drops on December 28th, a mere five days after his computer animated “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” opens wide.

It is good to see Spielberg doing a traditional film but I can’t help but feel I should correct a few things you said in your comment. Actually motion capture films like Avatar and Tin Tin do use actors and their performance is at the very heart of the film. Also, they do use cameras, just not the same kind of camera as traditional film. You are right about not needing the lighting though.

I’m pretty sure there will always be people who make films ‘on film’ as you say or perhaps a digital equivalent, I believe 3D and motion capture films also have their place and are a lot to do with cinemas finding new ways to pack in audiences but also they are about moving the technology forward and finding new ways of doing things. Credit to Steven Spielberg for being at the forefront I say.

Looks better than that “Tin Tin” $hit !! At least this looks like a movie worth seeing and paying money for… oh wait, I take that back. Let’s motion capture it and make the whole thing CG and totally eschew cameras and lighting and actors and just do it all in the computer. God, what was I thinking! This movie’s going to suck–I hope they do a fake 3D pass, too just to delay the release date another 3 or 4 months.

Keep up the good work, Steve! It’s nice to see you doing real movies again! On film!!!
