Strand Bringing "Romeos" To North America

Strand Releasing has acquired all North American rights to Sabine Bernardi’s romantic drama “Romeos,” which details the relationship between a young and a person in the midst of transforming from woman to man. Strand plans for a late 2011 release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Strand Releasing has acquired all North American rights to Sabine Bernardi’s ROMEOS from Media Luna New Films. The warm hearted and touching film which deals with the burgeoning relationship between a handsome young man and a person going through the process of transforming from woman to man, follows their journey.

The deal was done between Co- President, Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing an Ida Martins of Media Luna New Films.

The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama section where it was both lauded for its sensitive handling of the transgender material. The deal was done on the eve of the opening of the 35th edition of the San Francisco Frameline Film Festival where the film is screening.

Directed by Bernardi, this is her first narrative feature. Previous works include her documentary TRANSFAMILY, as well as short films.

ROMEOS has been selected to screen at the upcoming US Festivals: Seattle International Film Festival, Outfest in Los Angeles as well as Frameline in San Francisco. ROMEOS was awarded with “the Best Feature Film Award” at the 22nd Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival. The Canada premiere will be at Festival Du Film Du Monde, in Montreal.

“We couldn’t wish a better company for ROMEOS in North America. We are very happy about Strand’s enthusiasm and we truly believe they will have ROMEOS conquering the North American people irresistibly.” – says the Ida Martins, from Media Luna. And she adds: “Axel Schmidt, from Pro-Fun in Frankfurt, Germany, couldn’t resist to ROMEOS appeal as well. They purchased all rights for German Speaking countries and they are planning the Theatrical Release late Autumn this year. I am glad to see that the fears we had suffered in the past years are dismissing and that the Indi-Distributors are back in “business” again”.

It is great news that Media Luna sold ROMEOS to Strand Releasing for North America. Having such a successful and powerful distributor on board does honor ROMEOS and our company Boogiefilm. We hope that the distribution will flourish and be successful!” — says ROMEOS producers Janna Velber and Kristina Loebbert.

“We’re thrilled to officially close the deal at one of the biggest and best LGBT festivals in the US,” said Marcus Hu of Strand Releasing.
