Caryn James is a film and television critic, a culture critic and a novelist. She has been a film critic, chief television critic, and book reviewer for The New York Times, where she continues to contribute to the Book Review. She has also written for a wide range of publications in print and on-line, including The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post.
As a frequent film commentator on television, she has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, MSNBC, Charlie Rose, the Today Show and other programs.
She is also the author of the novels What Caroline Knew (St. Martins Press, 2006) and Glorie (Penguin Books, 1999).
She has a Ph.D. in English from Brown University and is currently Adjunct Asst. Professor of Film at Columbia University.
