Chris Rock Will Dish Out Fatherly Advice In Romcom "What To Expect, When You're Expecting"

Chris Rock has reportedly signed on to co-star in a Lionsgate project titled What To Expect, When You’re Expecting, which already stars Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick!

The film, an adaptation of the pregnancy manual of the same name, will be a romantic comedy “in the vein of ‘Love Actually’ and ‘Valentine’s Day’… a modern look at love through the eyes of four interconnected couples experiencing the thrills and surprises of having a baby, and ultimately coming to understand the universal truth that no matter what you plan for, life doesn’t always deliver what’s expected.

Rock will play a dude named Vic, the head of a group of expectant fathers, who gives them advice on and helps them understand what it really means to become a parent.

I’m guessing each of the 4 actresses above will play one half of the 4 interconnected couples. Not a black woman among them. Although, who knows, maybe one of them will have a black husband. I doubt it, but, ya never know :)

Kirk Jones is directing.

Since first hearing about this movie, I’ve had zero interest in it; and despite the addition of Rock, that hasn’t changed much.

A.V. you are cracking me up.

I have to agree with your assessment of Chris Rock’s film and stand-up career. It’s a shame he and/or hollywood have never been able to translate the sharp wit and charisma of his standup to the big screen.

It did translate to “Everybody Hates Chris”. Granted Chris Rock only did the voice over for that.

I have to say I’m not moved to see this movie. They could surprise us and do something very clever instead of simply capitalizing on a popular trend. (I’m referring to self help books not getting pregnant. Although getting pregnant is still pretty popular.)

This made me think of this really funny video about construction workers who yell fatherly advice. Check it out!

No black women is not a surprise, JMac. The real surprise is that there are white mothers in this film because according to Hollywood movies the most common single parent that exists in America is the white father. Those no-good white mothers! If they are not busy being bitches who have affairs and then leave the family, they end up inconveniently dying instead at a young age. I tell you it is becoming an epidemic. America must do something to save the white nuclear family.

Oh….well I guess since the movie is about giving birth I suppose Hollywood had to ignore reality and actually include white mothers in the script. Men can’t give birth after all although I’m sure they will soon try in a J. Apatow flick.

By the way perhaps I’m just in a bad mood but I have to say that Chris Rock sucks on the big screen. The man has a sharp mind, can write great material and is brilliant at standup, but put him in a film and you can see him “trying to act” instead of being more natural.

No black women? Aren’t we supposed to be the most productive baby making machines the world has ever known? Or maybe this is a comment that black moms don’t read books about pregnancy and early child rearing. Guess I’ll need to chastise my mom and sisters for ever consulting their raggedy copies of Dr. Spock books.
