Meryl Streep Gears Up for Awards Season in "The Iron Lady" Teaser

Ever since it was announced that Meryl Streep was set to embody Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady,” awards pundits started placing their bets. The Weinstein Company are banking on Streep cleaning up by releasing the Phyllida Lloyd (“Mamma Mia!”) directed drama at the height of awards season in the U.S. on December 16th.

Below get your first glimpse at Streep in action as Great Britain’s ’80s-era maverick Prime Minister. She doesn’t appear until the end of the teaser, but it’s definitely worth waiting for the big reveal.

What are your thoughts on Streep as Thatcher? Think she’s up to the task?

OH …. and again – fire the hairdresser/”wig” [dat’s w wiiig?] maker …. EVEN EVEN HAIR LINE … Geeze … It’s obviously a wig – not as bad as the one that puckered up on the side in “Lemony Snickett” though ….

WELL, she does seem to be channeling Faye Dunaway [the cheekbones and the teeth thing] playing an English mare in this clip …. far too genteel for Mrs Thatcher here … that old broad mac-trucked over eyeryoine and then sum … Glenda Jackson without the cahones could be good …..why doesn’t Meryl concentrate on Michelle Obama? That would be a grand Koup-duh-Etat ….

Meryl inhabits her characters like no other actress. She IS the greatest living actress of her day and the Oscar is her’s to lose with this performance (yes, even based on this little clip – and her accent is NOTHING like her Julia Child voice.)

meryl streep is brilliant in everything she does. I am in awe of her talent.

It’s a small clip but she doesn’t let us forget she’s Meryl Streep, does she? The voice sounds like her Julia Child impression — which I didn’t like much. Do like her, most of the time, though
