Seems like fair play: Stephen Colbert hacks into Rupert Murdopch’s voicemail. You may be suspicious of the thick Australian accent and the photo of Murdoch with a koala’s face, but you decide if the messages are authentic. Or, to echo Colbert’s response to a video of Fox News Channel commentators deciding they were “not going to touch” Murdoch’s News of the World phone hacking scandal, “That’s their motto: ‘We don’t touch it, you decide.’ ”
Colbert’s long but accurate credit roll of Murdoch’s remaining media properties gives new meaning to the word empire. We might as well say Murdoch has been colonizing the media.
And if you missed Jon Stewart’s incredulous reaction to the News of the World scandal, you can watch it here.
