Trailer Watch – Wood Harris And N’Bushe Wright in Thriller “Joy Road”

Trailer Watch - Wood Harris And N'Bushe Wright in Thriller "Joy Road"

I admit when I first saw this trailer I said to myself: “Hey, N’Bushe Wright! I haven’t seen her since, I think, Blade!

Now, you can say the same when you watch this trailer for the new dramatic thriller Joy Road, coming out this fall, starring Wright and Wood Harris of The Wire fame.

Co-starring Obba Babatunde and the always interesting and quirky Roger Guenveur Smith, and directed by Harry Davis, the film, which is set in Detroit, deals with a successful lawyer (Harris) who’s made the long journey from the hood he grew up in. Unfortunately, he finds himself way in over his head, and in a bad way, when he agrees to help our his troubled sister (Wright) when her boyfriend is arrested for murder. He finds himself a pawn in a conspiracy to pass laws that fill up prisons.

Judging from the trailer below it looks pretty slick and well put together. I would check it out when it comes out this fall:

This is 99 ways entertainment who made the film, Joy Road. The same take on “the ghetto” story – not by a mile. This film is a story about class in the black community. It visits the ghetto just as it visits the middle, upper middle and the wealthy class. Because the problems of the ghetto affect all corners of the black community.

It is precisely the thinking that we don’t want to hear about the ghetto that will spell our doom. We are only as strong as our weakest link.

It was said about the holocaust:

“First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me”.

Don’t let this happen to us – just because you don’t want to hear about “the ghetto”

Go see “Joy Road”

My hat goes off to the director and his support group for accomplishing a great victory! I had the priveledge of meeting them at ABFF.

Love N’Bushe, love Wood but I dunno about this one.

Is this the only thing that sells in the black community? So sick of these gangster movies. We complain when whiteywood stereotype AA in certain movies, but yet the same gangster crap keeps getting made in black cinema.

Tamara

Just thought about N’Bushe the other day.

AVON BARKSDALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More “Wire” alumni. I love it!

This does look worth a watch. I’ll rent it on down the line. Maybe.

This movie shows promise:)

It looks like an interesting take on the “hood drama”. I like the trailer and yes Idris Elba’s “Stinger Bell” got a lot of attention from ‘The Wire’ fans, Wood was very powerful in his role as “Avon Barksdale”. Wood is a very good actor who I hope keeps working.

James Madison

LOVE N’bushe and I like Wood Harris.

I just wish the film’s genre was different.

Quentin

Definitely well put together! But I didn’t get a single iota of the film’s story from the trailer… It should be re-edited.

Monique

I love N’bushe and I really hope somewhere down the line S&A will get a chance to speak with her! Such a marvelous talent that we rarely see anymore on screen.
