Watch "Glorious Saturday" Short Film Trailer

Directed by Santiago Lopez and produced by Maria Teresa Gamez, the short film Glorious Saturday will be featured next month at the 2011 New York International Latino Film Festival. As I mentioned in my previous post about The Custom Mary, also screening at this festival, the NYILFF will run from August 15th through August 21st.

The film’s synopsis reads:

“Carlos and Maria are 12 year old friends and live in a small island in the Colombian Caribbean Sea. They spend their time fishing, selling sweets and playing with a rooster. This rooster shows his physical superiority when he escapes and kills El Carrasca’s champion rooster. Only their friendship will save them from the amazing world of rooster fights and bets.”

The 14-minute film cost around $35,000 to make, and director Santiago Lopez hired young non-professional actors.

Watch the trailer below, which I found to be quite charming.

Ditto all.

Officially on my radar.

Thanks for posting.

Beautiful black people.

Definitely want to see this.

“young professional non-actors” — doing so can be hit or miss at times, can’t it? but works here. lends an authenticity. how do you direct non-actors? how do you make them “act” without “acting”? to have a camera shoved in their face for perhaps the first time and to still give an authentic, non-forced performance? I think that’s so great.

And that water is beautiful.

Really liking this one and that girl is beautiful.

Woah this looks really good I’m gonna have to check this out!
