James Earl Jones & Oprah Winfrey Will Receive Honorary Oscars

James Earl Jones and Oprah Winfrey have been named 2011 honorary Oscar recipients. They will receive their awards at the third annual Governors Awards dinner and ceremony in Hollywood on Saturday, November 12.

A little surprising that James Earl Jones never won an Oscar, and was only nominated once in his 50-years-long career. He was nominated in 1971 in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his performance in The Great White Hope (1970).

Oprah was also nominated once in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category for her performance in The Color Purple (1985).

She will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, given to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry, while Jones will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
