Preview Upcoming Documentary - "Reflections Unheard: Black Women In Civil Rights"

Directed by Nev N. Reflections Unheard: Black Women in Civil Rights

is an upcoming documentary that focuses on the marginalization of black women between the Black Power and Feminist ideologies of the 60s and 70s, up to the present day.

A tinderbox of an issue I’d say, if past conversations on the matter that I’ve witnessed are of any indication; it’s one that often inspires passionate debate from all angles.

The film has a Facebook page which you can “like” HERE if you’re interested in following its development.

@ truth: “the black man and the black woman started aiming at different causes”

What are these different causes, pray tell? When these Black women realized they could be doing more besides being back up singers for Black male activists who didn’t give a shit about them? Please.

I’m thrilled this film has been made, about time we see how we fit in with two different major movements in this country.

eshowman, the cranky film scholar

I wish all the people who yell and scream about black women being influenced by white women’s man hating ways would watch this. I wish all the people who are gushing over The Help would was this.

Let’s get this over and done with.

JMac – You’re not right and here’s why.
truth – No, you’re not right and here’s why.
JMac – I don’t believe any of that and it hasn’t changed my mind.
truth – Well, I don’t believe your junk and I know what I say/think is right.
JMac – Fine. Let’s just agree to disagree.

There. A three day conversation condensed to five minutes.

Everyone should still watch this film.

I think the documentary looks really interesting it seems to explore the struggle black women have in relation to the feminist movement and the civil rights movement.

“marginalization of black women between the Black Power and Feminist ideologies of the 60s and 70s”

This is one of the main reasons black people are where they are today because the black man and the black woman started aiming at different causes which eventually lead to the break up of the black family unit.
