Melissa Silverstein

I read so many books in college and after about women at the turn of the 20th century and how they were made to feel crazy because they wanted to experience other things than what the men of society wanted them to be. They were always said to be hysterical and told to rest. I really hope it’s not trivialized either. Some of my favorite things are written by women who were said to be hysterical like The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

What do you think about the mix of humor and hysteria? I’m anxious to see the film, but after the trailer, I’m a bit concerned at the seemingly simplistic connection they make between hysteria and horniness.Hoping the hysteria angle isn’t trivialized.
