Clint Eastwood’s period biopic J. Edgar will open the 25th AFI FEST on November 3. The R-rated movie, which opens limited November 9 and wide November 11, was not ready for the fall festival circuit.

The movie delves into the public and hidden private life of powerful five-decade FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover (Leonardo DiCaprio). Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer and Judi Dench co-star. Eastwood, Brian Grazer, and Robert Lorenz produced the original screenplay by Dustin Lance Black (Milk). Warners is mounting a full-on awards campaign for the film from Oscar perennial Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River also debuted at AFI). DiCaprio is due; he’s been nominated three times, for Blood DIamond, The Aviator and What’s Easting Gilbert Grape.

AFI FEST will take place November 3 through 10 in Hollywood, California, at Hollywood Boulevard’s Chinese and Egyptian Theatres and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

I think Leonardo will surely get a nomination for an Academy Award. I think he’ll get a Oscar nomination at least. He is incredible and he is amazing. And I think he will get it. It’s an incredible performance, just wonderful.

Well I feel that I’m due a million dollars but it’s not going to happen. Leo Dicarpio is unable to get lost in any of his roles. He is still Leo. I consider him a movie star more than an actor.

Or his feud with MLK?

Does the movie deal with Hoover’s participation in the cover-up of the Kennedy assassination?
