Common Looks Mean On Poster For AMC's Post-Civil War Drama "Hell On Wheels"

Official poster for AMC’s post-Civil War drama series titled Hell On Wheels, one of 7 or so Civil War-themed projects (TV and film) currently in development at various studios.

This one co-stars rapper-turned-actor Common, who plays a character named Elam – a freed, bi-racial slave who heads west to find work, while also hoping to find his place in society, as he doesn’t feel that he fits squarely into either the “black world” or the “white world.”

Hell on Wheels premieres Sunday, November 6 at 10/9c on AMC.

I think Common is a cool guy but I have to agree with Jmac.

At least he looks kinda badass on the poster.

oy vey. the clip is bad but it’s also short, so maybe he gets better

my problem, other than another installment of confederate lost cause anti-hero a la josey wales, jonah hex, is the description of Common’s character. searching for place because he doesn’t fit in either world? really?

I worked with one of the casting directors for Paramount & she’s from Chicago & she said “Dear God, I LOVE Common. He’s from Chicago like me, but he is horrible & gets worse the more words they give him to say.”

The sad part is, I think he does care & he IS doing his best. If his name was “whatever whatever” Jones tho, he’d be unemployed like a mug.

Okay, at first I was going to say give the brother a break, it’s just a tv show that probably won’t make it, but then I saw the clip.

At least he looks good and mean on the poster. Kind of.

Booooo! My god, the trained black thespians of the world should kidnap him and force him into some acting classes!!! I love that rappers love to expand their horizons into other fields, but for god sake’s study the damn craft! Those two lines right there, plus his previous “work” let’s me know that these guys just see it as a paycheck and not a real art. Boooo!
