IFC Midnight announced today from Fantastic Fest 2011 that the company has just acquired all rights in North America, Malaysia, and Singapore to directors Adrian and Ramiro Garcia Bogliano’s PENUMBRA. The film, with a screenplay also by Adrian and Ramiro, stars Cristina Brondo, Camila Bordonaba, and Berta Muniz, and was executive produced by Horacio and Esteban Mentasti and Alberto Trigo. The deal for PENUMBRA was closed just prior to the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest.
PENUMBRA is a thriller set in Argentina on the day of a solar eclipse. Marga is a beautiful, hard-nosed lawyer looking to rent out an apartment she recently inherited in an old, decrepit building. The very first person she meets is a suspicious man whose boss wants the apartment at all costs. Not wanting to lose out on a big payday she agrees and waits for the boss to arrive. As the eclipse encroaches above, Marga begins to notice mysterious occurrences in and around the building that lead her to wonder what these people want with her and this apartment on such a unique day… What awaits her is horrific and shocking.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “We’ve been big fans of Adrian and Ramiro Garcia Bogliano since we saw COLD SWEAT. We’re thrilled to be in business with them on PENUMBRA, which shows them only growing stronger as filmmakers. Cristina Bondo gives an amazing performance as the Boglianos slowly and expertly turn up the dread and tension in this thrilling film.”
“After ten years of working on this project, having IFC distribute the film is more than we could have ever imagined,” noted Adrian and Ramiro Garcia Bogliano. “We’re big fans of their work and are thrilled to see how audiences receive PENUMBRA.”
The deal for the film was negotiated by Jeff Deutchman, Manager of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Nate Bolotin at XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
IFC Midnight is a sister division to IFC Films and Sundance Selects, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks, Inc.
