Denzel Washington has a leading lady for Robert Zemeckis’ Flight. It’s Kelly Reilly, who we suggested to play Daisy Buchanan before Carey Mulligan snagged the role in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D The Great Gatsby. You’ll recognize the British Reilly from Sherlock Holmes (the first and upcoming sequel, as Jude Law’s lady love) and Pride & Prejudice (Caroline Bingley). She deserves to be showcased, and this should be a meaty role. Here are Flight plot details.
Writer-director Sue Kramer (Grey Matters) will helm The Locals, with Shirley MacLaine and–should negotiations go through–Alan Arkin and Vera Farmiga. The Locals is a Romeo & Juliet with a Jewish-Italian twist, and will shoot in the Bronx later this fall. Says Kramer; “These two cultures have so much in common: Love of gab, love of food, they talk with their hands, and they feed you with guilt.”
Martha Marcy May Marlene backer, Maybach Cunningham, hopes to bring two new projects to festival fame, Sean Baker’s (Prince of Broadway) Starlet with Dree Hemingway and Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother of George with Isaach De Bankole, but their next film, says ThePlaylist, will be directed by co-founder Chris Maybach from a Richard Kessler script. Offers are out to Nick Nolte, hot off a killer comeback in Warrior, and musician-actor Tom Waits. ThePlaylist has the synopsis, which follows two men on the brink of losing their farm.
