Kevin Costner's Out As Slave Fighting Trainer In "Django Unchained"

Back in July we, along with everyone else, reported that Kevin Costner jumped on board Quentin Tarantino’s western revenge film Django Unchained with Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson, to play the role of Ace Woody, the slave fighting trainer and right hand man for the villain in the film, Calvin Candie, to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

However now it’s been reported that Costner has officially dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts with Django and his film Hatfields & McCoys, to be directed by his Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves director Kevin Reynolds. Or maybe he got cold feet with the idea of playing such a despicable character.

It is worthy of note the number of actors and actresses that refuse to be bought, bribed, blackmailed, or intimidated into showcasing the torture porn of Black women for the promise of an Oscar.

Despicable characters often win Oscars, e.g., Christoph Waltz. Kostner could use a kick in the career.

I am hopeful that all actors forced to make hard decisions continue to show strength of character and courage of convictions in passing by this theatrical humiliation and gratuitous cinematic exploitation of black women, which seems unending and everlasting. Despite the presence of First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters in the White House, or perhaps because of that, fanboys across the Internet seem to greatly anticipate the rape visuals promised in Quentin Tarantino’s script which is a revelation of sociopathy. Hopefully the directors who emphasize strong women in featured roles (instead of as victims and toys for degradation) will continue to reap the benefits of growing revulsion against exploitation of the pain of slave ancestors .
