Lady Blockbuster

Lady Blockbuster

I came across recently a terrific film wesbite (that is other than S & A) called Obscure One Sheet which chronicles and discusses posters and promo material for films of the 60’s and 70’s – the stuff I grew up with. And a few months ago, the site posted a Variety promo ad for Warner Bros’ Cleopatra Jones, announcing the film was set to come out that summer of 1973.

Long before Columbiana (…make that decades before) there was Cleopatra Jones starring Tamara Dobson (a former model turned actress who passed away in 2006), who plays an U.S. secret agent after a gang of drug dealers led by, of all people, Shelley Winters, who is hilariously WAY over the top in the film. In fact the whole film is WAY over the top and hell of a lot entertaining.

But the promo one sheet for the film is just great and makes me long for the good old days. Take a peek below. How could you NOT want to see it?

Built like a sundrench terracotta and smoldering sexy as f^%*!,dame do i have to go overseas?.

Been a while since I saw this film. My mom named me after Ms. Dobson. Beautiful woman. RIP. I’ll have to revisit this era someday…

Lol, this is one of my favorite blaxploitation movies. Max Julien penned the script himself and did a pretty fine job. Dobson was beautiful and charismatic, I would’ve liked to see her do more films. I disliked the sequel to this because they tried too hard to make it epic, more action packed and larger, but it took away from the simple charm of the original.

What’s S & A? I even looked it up online and nothing showed up; please try to specify in the future.
