Linkin Park Noisemaker Mike Shinoda To Score TIFF Midnight Madness Hit 'The Raid'

Not long after a raucous midnight showing at TIFF‘s Midnight Madness section, actioner “The Raid,” which picked up excellent reviews from the festival, is set to have a new sound, with Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda coming on board, according to The Hollywood Reporter, to craft the picture’s soundscape. Hailing from Indonesia (although helmed by Welsh director Gareth Huw Evans), “The Raid” follows the conflict between a SWAT team and a gang of mobsters armed to the teeth and trained in martial arts. Obviously really challenging stuff. It’s from the makers of the martial arts film “Merantau,” which featured a similarly threadbare plot as an excuse for some ornate martial arts choreography. It would be nice if someone told some of these guys that it’s nice to have amazing stunts and a story as well, but hey, they can’t all be Jackie Chan. And if they tried, it probably wouldn’t end well for anyone’s safety.

A trailer has also surfaced, showcasing the bone-breaking action that most likely makes up the entire runtime. Hide the kids, because this is a red band clip, and people are getting shot point blank in the face. We’re betting that dude didn’t survive. While the film was shown with a score by Aria Prayogi and Fajar Yuskemal, the trailer highlights Mike Shinoda’s name. And the music certainly sounds like it’s from the rookie composer, as it’s repetitive and derivative, and simply headache-inducing. With unconventional pop scores this year from The Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx, Shinoda’s work in this brief vid doesn’t make much of an impression.

Check the trailer after the jump. “The Raid” was purchased at Cannes by Sony, but has no release date yet.

the director’s name is Gareth Huw Evans, not Gareth Huw Edwards.

The title of the similar film is spelled “Merantau” (muh-run-taw) and yes, it’s about one slim badass taking down the whole gangster in one entire building using only his fists and kicks.
