Score another one for the raptors (rappers turned actors)… this time it’s the Dogg-Father himself, Snoop D-O-Double G-Y Dogg, who’s now reportedly attached to star in a biopic on the life of Fillmore Slim (born Clarence Slim), the blues vocalist and guitarist, who was also a well-known pimp in San Francisco in the 60s and 70s, often referred to as “The West Coast Godfather of the Game” and “The Pope of Pimping.”
Of course! No wonder Snoop would be interested in starring in this :) He probably salivated at the thought of having to wear sharkskin suits, alligator shoes, diamond watches, and driving around in pimped-out 70s Cadillacs. And don’t forget the hoes. It’ll just be like another music video shoot for Uncle Snoop.
But seriously… this will be quite the dramatic role for Snoop, which will “span decades… from Slim’s emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption,” as producer Alan Ames said. He produces the syndicated TV series Texas Roadhouse Live. Not familiar with it.
Apparently Slim’s daughter Rebecca approached him to help put the project together. Hawthorne James (primarily an actor, according to IMDB) will direct, with a March 2012 start date planned.
The 77-year-old Slim, who is also said to have had a brief relationship with Etta James, still records and tours. If you watched the Hughes brothers documentary, American Pimp, you’d remember seeing him in it, talking about the many thousands of prostitutes he had while his pimp hand was strong.
