How lovely to be amidst the season of quality movies after a summer of fanboy fare and commercial letdowns (exceptions: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Super 8). This weekend offers a wide variety of films to choose from, but both TOH! and indieWIRE recommend achingly good Take Shelter (here’s our interview with star Michael Shannon; and iW’s with director Jeff Nichols) and heartfelt and sincere 50/50 (our interview with Joseph Gordon-Levitt) ahead of the critically-slaughtered and much delayed Margaret, the unimpressive Sarah Palin: You Betcha! or the yet-to-be-screened Dream House or Anna Faris’ What’s Your Number. For the art house cinephile, there’s the difficult-but-worth-it My Joy, while Tucker & Dale vs. Evil offers up a healthy serving of bloody fun for those with the appetite.
