This week, everyone has an opinion on Steven Soderbergh’s latest “Contagion,” while “Tanner Hall” disappoints. Figure out what to see by checking out all the reviews published this week on indieWIRE and our Blog Network.
“The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceauşescu”
Andrei Ujica has made a documentary without voice-over narration or talking-head commentary of any kind, without introductory titles for principal personages, without scene-setting placards that provide context
Contagion is as straightforward as an episode of CSI, but it’s gripping from start to finish.
I guess it never hurts to be reminded to cover your mouth when you cough, but Steven Soderbergh’s plague-thriller “Contagion” should have been so much more than a star-filled health warning.

The film is the kind of smart, grown-up entertainment that mostly doesn’t get made anymore—a firmly entertaining, commercial project made with impeccable craft.
Thompson on Hollywood
Based on real science, writer Scott Z. Burns has fashioned a reality-based thriller that could easily come true.

“Tanner Hall” focuses on the would-be complexities of adolescent life, but struggles to communicate anything remotely insightful about those lives.
“The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975”
The Playlist: B-
It’s a coy admission and a timid remit that betrays some of the film’s loftier purposes – for a documentary about volatile race relations in the late 1960s and their lasting marks on contemporary US society, it plays things, for the most part, extraordinarily safe.
Shadow and Act
Their efforts resulted in some amazing and explosive 16mm footage of key Black Power figures and Civil Rights activists of the day (footage that was discovered some 30 years after it was recorded, sitting, untouched, in the cellar of a Swedish television station).
The Playlist: B
Let’s not beat around the bush. “Warrior” is ridiculous. Ludicrous. Virtually every beat is laid out in true sports movie fashion, although the screenplay has to go through some incredibly tortured contrivances in order to get it there.
