The European Film Academy will honor Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen with their European Achievement in World Cinema Award at the December 3 event in Berlin. High cheek-boned Mikkelsen–from his performance as villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale to his starring roles in Susanne Bier’s Open Hearts and After the Wedding, plus Nicolas Winding Refn’s Valhalla Rising, Ole Christina Madsen’s Flame & Citron and Jan Kounen’s Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky–is an immensely watchable actor, and one of our favorites (some trailers below). On receiving the award, Mikkelsen sent the following statement:

“There is very little to say when you are honoured with an award of this calibre other than that I am deeply grateful. Seeing the list of former recipients, all giants, and realising that people outside my family keep an eye on my work, makes me accept this award with great humbleness and a big smile.”

Great news for Mads! He’s probably one of, if not the best leading man actor to come out of Scandinavian for some time now that has some international success. Oscar seemed to be recognizing more and more foreign actors now, one can only wish Mads would one day has a project with such cross-over appeal that will get him some Oscar attention.

Mikael Persbrandt has decided to go hollywood as well. He’s already a superstar in Sweden, it would be interesting to see if he can choose his career in hollywood wisely.
