Halle is dealing w the Academy Award curse t’is all..

what has any of the actresses mentioned done that has topped the .. movie they won the Award for?
Academy Awards is cursed we all know that.
Ya win & that’s it! your 15 min is Over!

I can understand why the movie didn’t do well at the box office. But let me go back. I am not one who believes Halle is not a good actress, okay. So, for me, I don’t need to see her beauty, her body, nor a heavy character driven role to appreciate a film that she’s part of. Having said that, there of course has to be others actors (that I enjoy) around to make it all come together. In this case, Benicio Del Toro fit that bill.

Plus, my first love is dramas, I am not an action flick kind of guy. Car crashes, chase scenes, bombs & guns, and T & A don’t move me. So, “Things We Lost In The Fire” falls right in my groove zone (for so many reasons).

First, with the recent passing of Steve Jobs, the title and basic message of “Things We Lost In The Fire” rings loud and clear. I don’t want to give the movie away, so I’ll walk lightly and simply say, “The best things in life aren’t things”.

That’s the setup to the whole movie, which I’ll call a relationship/friendship/ addiction/love story/ drama… with individual conflicts in the lives of each character in the film. Benicio Del Toro is fighting his own demons, separate from Halle’s. However, they need each other in ways that make the movie a thought provoking, enlightening and entertaining experience.

I have to add that my ability to engage with/ feel this movie was heightened by the fact that I can directly relate to BOTH of the main character’s “concerns”/”problems” (been there). They are distinctly different, yet through mutual friendships, the characters merge together to share each others pain and find comfort in knowing someone understands and needs them.

In short, this movie is not for the “casual” movie lover and it’s hard to describe, so I understand why it didn’t do well at the box office. When you see it, let me know what you think.

Love Halle, Love her acting. She may not be your cup of tea, but believe me she does have plenty of people who enjoy seeing her on the screen.

She don’t need a movie, she needs a miracle to be a good actress, she is the worst and boring, she needs to stay home with that kid. Even if she loose 100 pounds she still can act. Now she looks sick and old.

I didn’t see it, but it performed badly. 7 Mil. Maybe I’ll give it a try since you gave it thumbs up;)

I enjoyed “Things We Lost In The Fire”

@Emmanuel: Who told you that Halle needs a comeback? She’s been in 5 films that grossed over 100 Mil WW, 3 of those grossed over 400 Mil. And even though most were part of an ensemble cast, she grossed over 100 for Gothika & 70Mil for Perfect Strangers, and impressively, 2/3 of those box office sales were overseas. They love the hell out of her in Ireland. Even her kids film did 250 Mil WW. Did she have some stink bombs like “Things We Lost In The Fire” and “Catwoman”? Sure, she took a risk. Part of the job of being a moviestar.

So you can say you don’t like her or her choice in men is poor. But to say she is not a draw? Grossly inaccurate.

i hope cloud atlas is her comeback film but hopefully this turns out well

Hmmmm. Could this be Halle’s official comeback role?

Emmanuel you do realize that all Halle needs is one hit movie to get her career back on track. Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman also had bombs in their careers. All Halle needs is a movie that does well at the box office and she’s back.

When will it end? When will they realize that she’s not the draw they think she is?
