'Taken 2' Reloads On October 5, 2012
Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker. If you're a fan of John McClane or things blowing up in general, get ready, because the long in development "Die Hard 5" is now officially titled "A Good Day To Die Hard" and it will be the date movie of choice on Thursday, February 14, 2013.
“Max Payne” director John Moore landed the directing gig earlier this year beating out a shortlist of names that included Joe Cornish, Justin Lin, Nicolas Winding Refn and Noam Murro, who had been tapped to helm the picture first, but moved on to direct “300: Battle of Artemisia” instead. Written by Skip Woods (”X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), this latest installment will apparently involve McClane battling local forces in Russia with his son in what we’re guessing will be a movie that will hope to keep the franchise alive with a younger name. But one person who won't be returning? Mary Elizabeth Winstead who recently told us she hadn't been contacted to reprise her role from "Live Free Or Die Hard" as McClane's daughter Lucy. But that's not all, as Fox has dated a bunch of their upcoming mega movies.
Yep, “Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” made just enough money to warrant a sequel so "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" will land on March 27, 2013. “Ed Wood” writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (the duo also wrote “Agent Cody Banks”) are writing the screenplay.
Ready for Liam Neeson taking care of more vague foreigners? Good, because "Taken 2" as directed by the ridiculously/awesomely named Olivier Megaton will unleash vengeance on October 5, 2012. Lookout "Frankenweenie" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D"!
Meanwhile, Curtis Hanson's surfing movie, "Of Men and Mavericks" will bait Oscar folks with an October 26, 2012 date. The film stars Gerard Butler, Jonny Weston, Leven Rambin, Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer in the biopic of late surfer Jay Moriarty. The Santa Cruz native found his calling in the world of surfing at a young age and soon flourished with the guidance of local elder Rick “Frosty” Hesson (Butler). Moriarty (Weston) trained under a vigorous mental and physical program in preparation to surf Mavericks, a spot on the California coast where waves five stories tall would come in during the winter swells. He tragically passed away the day before his 23rd birthday in a free-diving accident in the Maldives.
Lastly, Lionsgate will lurch "I, Frankenstein" with Aaron Eckhart into theaters on February 22, 2013. An adaptation of Kevin Grevioux‘s Darkstorm Studios graphic novel it’s a genre mashup of sorts, relocating Frankenstein to a modern day setting and pitting him against two clans of supernatural creatures who are looking to take over the human world. The film will be directed by Stuart Beattie ("Tomorrow When The War Began"). [BoxOfficeMojo]
