“L.A. Rebellion: Creating a New Black Cinema” – A Retrospective Not To Be Missed!

"L.A. Rebellion: Creating a New Black Cinema" - A Retrospective Not To Be Missed!

We’re going to be covering this retrospective, which begins this Friday; Our man on the west coast, Brandon Wilson, will be present for as many screenings as he can attend, and will be writing about each experience, which he’ll post here on S&A, so stay tune for the coverage.

Otherwise, if you live in Los Angeles, and will be in town during any part (or all) of the period that this event takes place (October 7th through December 17th), this needs to be on your calendar.

The overview and complete lineup speak for themselves, so click HERE to download the PDF schedule. I’ll return in coming days for a breakdown and some individual highlights.

This looks fantastic! I’d love to see this come to New York.

@ blaqbird

That would be great!

I’ll be there, for sure!!!!

Maybe some S&A readers should do a meetup after the screening. Would love to meet the people that keep the comments interesting everyday. :)

I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.
I have to go.

“I’m happy for you, Sergio! Are you going to this?”

No I’ll be on the other side of the world when it’s going on. And besides they STILL owe me money. I’m telling you black cinema doesn’t pay

Just Visiting

I’ll admit to looking for a bootleg of Passing Through for years, but I am not familiar with the majority of these films, even the ones made in the last 10-15 years. Are all these films are sitting in the UCLA archives?

I will be going…

Having worked on one of those L.A rebellion films myself (Penitentiary) I’m still amazed that I’ve been involved in Black Cinema in one form or another for over 30 years. I am the living embodiment of Black Cinema. HA!

I hope I can make it; I’m going to be busy that month doing a play, so hopefully I can make some time to go.
