Robert Townsend's "Diary Of A Single Mom" Coming To DVD

Robert Townsend’s web series Diary of a Single Mom, which was later shown as a feature on TV One, is coming to DVD through Image Entertainment on January 10, 2012.

Written by Cheryl L. West and starring Monica Calhoun, Richard Roundtree, Diahann Carroll and Billy Dee Williams the film deals with the life, loves and struggles of a single working mother of two children who manages a neighborhood apartment building while encountering numerous problems with her tenants. If anyone saw the show let us know what it was like.

I’ve seen every episode too, all three seasons, and really enjoyed it. Monica Calhoun, playing Ocean Jackson, skillfully conveys her title character’s frustrations and will to overcome. She is a very talent actress..

Leon does an excellent job as the gentlemanly Mike, the father of her neighbor’s daughter and a potential love interest for Ocean. It’s great watching Hollywood vets Richard Roundtree and Billy Dee Williams in strong roles too as regulars, BDW’s being especially complex as a good-hearted . The legendary Diahann Carroll is also nice to see in her recurring role.

The lesser known cast members really deliver too: Valery Ortiz as Ocean’s friend and fellow, struggling single mother; Janice Lynde as a middle-aged widow raising her grandchild and trying to be make it after losing her life of privilege; Brooklyn McLinn in an arc as Ocean’s slithery ex, whom she left because of his abuse. (In real life, McLinn is also an acting instructor who appeared on the first season of the Braxton Family Values conducting a workshop Towanda Braxton attended.)

The mood of the show gets dreary at times, but that’s just a minor imperfection in my eyes. I recommend that everyone check it out. You can go to if you want to watch it.

Saw every episode. Loved the story and the production. Waiting for the continuation.
