Watch A Preview Of The New NBC Crime Drama "Grimm" Co-starring Russell Hornsby

Making it’s debut October 28th is the crime drama Grimm on the NBC network. The show is a captivating mix of fantasy and mystery.

The series is inspired by the classic Grimm’s Fairy Tales. A synopsis states…

Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, “Turn The Beat Around”) discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as “Grimms,” charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.

As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton, (Bitsie Tulloch, “quarterlife”), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby, “Lincoln Heights”), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world.

With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, “Prison Break”), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology, facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, The Grimm Brothers. Reggie Lee (“Persons Unknown”) and Sasha Roiz (“Caprica”) also star.

Color me intrigued! Below is a sneak peek trailer along with a brief interview with Hornsby.

I’m curious to see how it goes.

Thanks for posting Cynthia

Yeah, I saw a preview of the pilot a few weeks back. My take is that it’s “Boy Buffy” sans Whedon cleverness and dialogue. Basically it’s your standard crime procedural with some supernatural elements thrown in. I wasn’t super-impressed with it, but it wasn’t horrible either. It was watchable and had a premise that they could take in an interesting direction if willing to be risky. But that’s the key. Risk. We don’t really *need* another crime procedural on TV.

Hornsby has a pretty substantial character, kind of the Scully to the main character’s Mulder. I don’t remember seeing him in anything before, and most of the cast, other than Sasha Roiz from Caprica, was unfamiliar to me, so I don’t really have a read on his performance.

This season has been decidedly “meh” for new shows. I’ll give it a chance.

Liking some of the fantasy/real world type shows popping up this month. I’ve already marked Once Upon A Time on my mental calendar but I hadn’t seen trailers for this show yet… and at least this one has a black main actor. I think Giancarlo is supposed to make a few appearances in Once Upon a Time.
