According to RZA, Tracey Morgan & Eddie Griffin Want To Play Ol' Dirty Bastard in Biopic

“Eddie Griffin is down. Me and Eddie talked about it laughed about it. Tracy Morgan, he wanna do it [too]. I said ‘Ya’ll both kinda can do it.'”

The RZA‘s words, according to an interview with XXL Mag, who spoke to the Wu-Tang Clan leader about the Ol’ Dirty Bastard screen biopic, supposedly in the works for a few years now.

According to RZA, Eddie Griffin seems to have the edge to get the part. He says, “Eddie spent time with Dirty. They knew each other well.”

The script is penned by Raeshawn, another cousin of the late rapper. He says, “He’s been working on it for two years now. [In fact] I think Eddie’s already signed on with a letter of Intent—I signed on, of course. So you know [Raeshawn] got my blessin’ to make it happen.”

The screen biopic of another Wu-Tang member, Raekwon, is reportedly in the works with Cee-lo Green attached to play his father.

The RZA recently finished directing his first feature film, The Man With The Iron Fist. We posted some details about that project shot in China, a couple of months ago, in THIS post.

Well, I guess now it’s the time for late rappers’ screen biopics. There’s money to be made here, if Notorious was any indication.

Interesting casting choices nonetheless. Thoughts?

When I first saw the headline I assumed it was a WU-TANG bio pic, not just of one of them.

I think the story of the group is very fascinating. Who TF would think to put nine mofos in one group NINE? and then make it a success. THAT is the real story.

Maybe they’re trying to do it “Avengers style” and release solo movies building up to a joint picture *dankshrug*

Raekwon is still alive, btw. That’s the most interesting news to me. Doesn’t interest me at all and Im a huge wu-tang fan.

Tracy all the way! I just watched Son of No One and with limited lines and screen time he showed deep facial expression. We know he can be crazy up but it was almost refreshing to see him command attention without speaking.

other song

isn’t Tracey Morgan already ODB? at least in his own head?

to be honest, I’m a Wu fan and I don’t know if I want to see this. I love Ghostface, but I don’t really care for a Ghostface biopic, nah mean?

I’m more interested in a doc along the lines of Tribe’s, where they discuss the music: what inspired them, the effect their music had on people, etc.

Eddie is cool, but Tracy is SO Brooklyn and would KILL the role. Besides Eddie has too small of a frame to do it. Tracy is Brooklyn enough and cRAzy enough to get an OSCAR if done right.
