Project of the Day: Melissa Leo in Story of One Uncontrollable Teenager, “Persephone”

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Tweetable Logline:

Two stubborn parents struggle to control their teenage daughter, but she has other plans her own.

Elevator Pitch:

Part I of “Persephone” is in the can. We spent an amazing three days with Melissa Leo, Gilles Malkine and Lindsay Andretta on location at some of the most beautiful estates in the Hudson Valley where we filmed our scenes for Mount Olympus and the River Styx.

Part II of the production is scheduled for mid-December and will feature scenes in Hades Lair and the “Underworld Parade” featuring horses, debauchery and tortured souls. Our parade location will be at the actual headquarters of the NYC Halloween parade.

Part III will be filmed in February to capture the dead of winter.

Production Team:

Director: Laurent Rejto
Producers: Amanda Warman, Erik Weigel, Greg Meola
Cinematographer: Bryan Cloninger
Assistant Director: Shawn Rice
Costume Design: Ingrid Price
Production Design: Stacey Anderson
Cast: Melissa Leo, Gilles Malkine, Lindsay Andretta

About the Production:

“As a lifelong fan of mythology, I’ve always had a passion interpreting modern stories through archetypes. The story of ‘Persephone’ touches on many subjects including environmental and human chaos but ultimately, my modern take is about a teenager trying to find balance in a world she cannot control.

“As the film commissioner in New York’s Hudson Valley River, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting and recommending some incredible locations in the world. The estates that we are fortunate enough to be using lend themselves perfectly to mythology. They’re larger than life but the people who inhabit them are only human.”—Laurent Rejto

Current Status:

We’re currently raising funds for PART II, which will be filmed in HADES underworld, on location where they create the NYC Halloween parade.

How dreamy! Melissa Leo floating over this estate — a true Greek Goddess in the Hudson Valley. Looks magical to me. And I always loved the myth. Anyone with teenaged daughters will identify!

Linda Kutrubes

This an exciting project with beautiful filming. Best of Luck.

Allison; You might want to consider what you're posting before making ridiculous statements. We've raise $530. This is a passion project with no money. It's so easy to be negative and repugnant!

gee suffering is so picturesque when there is gobs of money…
