Screen Gems To Remake Actioner The Raid

Screen Gems is planning an English-language remake of Gareth Evans’ incredibly violent unrated Indonesian actioner “The Raid,” for which Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired U.S. distribution rights at the Cannes Film Festival. The intense martial arts flick about an elite SWAT team trapped under siege in a drug lord’s tenement won the Midnight Movie audience award at Toronto.Producer is XYZ Films, which produced the original film. Evans will executive produce. Good news: the fight choreographers are returning to the project. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper will oversee the remake.

Reviews praised the action sequences. Here are Variety and THR.

Are subtitles really so intimidating?

Seriously, stop this ridiculous remake bullshit. All this re-processing of ideas from other countries and burying the originals is pathetic and cowardly.

the raid is the best action movie will be a classic like the bruce lee movies

Benjamin Crossley-Marra

Well that's fresh! Can't wait to double bill that with Spike Lee's Oldboy remake.
