"The Hunger Games" Gets A Full Trailer... And I Still Have No Interest In Seeing The Flick

I’m probably in the minority when I say I have so little interest in seeing this. I’ve seen enough of these broadly-categorized “white teenager in mythical worlds adventure” flicks; I saw the last 2 Harry Potter movies, and I’ve had my fill for awhile.

And before anyone jumps on me, no, I’m not implying that Harry Potter = The Hunger Games. But I’d put both of them under the

white teenager

 in mythical worlds

adventure” flicks category; or “teenagers

in mythical worlds

adventure flicks starring white young men and/or women,” sometimes even if the characters weren’t originally written as Caucasian.

Akira’s next…

Will I see The Hunger Games when it’s out? Likely, though it’ll probably be at a press screening, meaning I won’t have to pay to see it :)

But don’t let me ruin your anticipation for it.

Of note,

Lenny Kravitz,  Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg all have roles in this; in the trailer below – released this morning – you’ll get quick glances at Kravitz as ” Cinna  ,” and Amandla as “Rue.”

The Hunger Games will be in theaters March 23, 2012.

The book was a pathetic excuse of a novel that was horribly written and incredibly derivative story. The film looks even worse… "the girl on fire" is just a red dress, and the other costumes look like battlestar leftovers.

that dude

What are you looking forward to seeing?

Looks okay, but derivative of "Battle Royale".

Yes! Yes! Yes! OMG 'The Hunger Games’ is going to be huge! I can’t wait!!! I’ll be going on opening night with all my girls! Woooo! :)

Geneva Girl

Please give this a chance. There is a much deeper message than any of these other white girls in jep movies that I hope doesn't get lost on the screen. I can see now that critics will be calling the Districts the 1%.

Actually, in the book the character has olive skin so she could be anything or a mix. Sadly, Hollywood had to change that. To offset that, I think, Lenny Kravitz was cast as what was a white character in the book. He's a very interesting choice.

The book was a fantastic read and I hope and pray that the movie is just as exciting. I'm especially looking forward to seeing Amandla Stenberg. Don't be so negative about it – unless it sucks! And, trust me, the rabid fans, me included, will let you know if it does.

This reminds me of Battle Royale. Nothing new. But still interesting.

Im definitely seeing it.
