Watch: Carey Mulligan's "New York, New York" Powers Latest Trailer For 'Shame'

Steve McQueen's "Shame" continues to dominate much of the awards talk this fall, but the question is whether or not the stuffier members of the Academy will give the movie a fair shake. While dark and unrelenting, it's also a powerful character study, a portrait of a man's desire for human connection gone horribly wrong. The movie features Michael Fassbender in one of this finest performances to date. And oh yeah, Carey Mulligan sings.

A new, evocative trailer for the film has landed, using the actress' langorous rendition of "New York New York" to brilliant effect in a spot that only offers up one word of dialogue: "Slowly." And that word speaks volumes about "Shame," a masterfully paced, evenly spaced slow boil that sees one man's descent to rock bottom as a result of an addiction to sex and an inability to forge lasting emotional relationshiops.

Resonant and raw, it truly is one of the best of pictures of the year. Check out the trailer below, and you can pick up Mulligan's tune on the upcoming soundtrack. "Shame" opens on December 2nd. [via Vlicious]

She sings beautifully well. Bravo!

Please please please invest in a proofreader or a spellchecker. The number of mistakes I encounter while reading these articles (which are otherwise very good) is distracting!

Dissappointing rendition by Carey tbh. She plays a professional singer? Yikes.
