Weekend B.O. (Dec. 16-18)

Weekend B.O. (Dec. 16-18)

This weekend’s most impressive box office numbers came from Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol which opened in only just over 400 IMAX theaters this weekend to a very solid $13 million. The film opens in regular theaters nationwide on Weds Dec. 21 where its sure to give other films opening on that day, including David Fincher’s (totally unecessary remake of) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a run for its money.

Martin Scorsese’s Hugo looks like it’s out of gas despite all the critical praise that it’s gotten and will no way close even close to recouping (domestically) its reported $170 million production cost and Steve McQueen’s Shame has now grossed $1,230,000 on only 51 screens to date.

MI Ghost Protocol was AWESOME, and Paula Patton was sexy as hell

Hugo was boring

Geneva Girl

I took the munchkin to see Hugo. We read and enjoyed the book which was directed squarely at kids, but the film wasn't. It couldn't make up its mind about who the target audience was. Some of the humor was inappropriate for a movie directed at kids.

While it was very good, it was not perfect and a few things bothered me, namely Ben Kingsley and whomever played his wife. Their performances were solid, but it is much easier to make a younger person look old and very hard to go the other way well. Kingsley looked just plain weird in the flashback scenes.

Perhaps, this would have fared better at another time of the year.
