Rooney Mara to the rescue! With the girl formerly known as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (formerly known as the girl from "The Social Network") set to star in "Bitter Pill" (aka "Side Effects"), Steven Soderbergh now has brought in Endgame Entertainment ("An Education") to finance the film.
Financier Annapurna Pictures wasn't happy with Blake Lively in the lead role; they dropped out. Mara replaces Lively as the lead, and joins cast members Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jude Law. Scott Z. Burns wrote the script, andl will produce along with Greg Jacobs and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Open Road is set to distribute.
Mara will play a woman addicted to prescription drugs to cope with the anxiety and depression caused by her husband's (Tatum) impending release from prison. It's wise of Mara to choose a role like this. While there are ingenues aplenty, few young actresses can deliver edge. Here's more on her potential "Dragon Tattoo" follow-ups.
