Garrett Hedlund Goes ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ For The Coen Brothers

Garrett Hedlund Goes 'Inside Llewyn Davis' For The Coen Brothers

Well, now that he’s got some free time on his hands since “Akira” is on hold for the foreseeable future, Garrett Hedlund is gonna sing for his supper.

It looks like the Coen Brothers watched “Country Strong,” as they are impressed enough by the actor’s singing voice to cast him in their ’60s folk music scene flick, “Inside Llewyn Davis.” Trading a mindless remake for a Coen Brothers movie? Not bad. Plot details are under wraps, but what we do know is that the film is loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk, an American folk singer who presided over the ‘60s Greenwich Village scene, that included people you might have heard of like Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Joni Mitchell. And in keeping with the secrecy, there is no word on the role he’ll play.

Hedlund showed himself to have a decent voice in the Gwyneth Paltrow movie singing “Chances Are,” and he joins a cast mostly of Coen newcomers including Justin Timberlake, Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, F. Murray Abraham, Jeanine Seralles and John Goodman. Lensing is set to gear up very soon and this production is moving fast. The plan is to have the Scott Rudin produced movie on the festival circuit by the fall, and while there is no distribution lined up yet, that’s where those deals will likely be made. We presume it will factor into the Oscar race on some level, so our guess is limited release this year, followed by a wider rollout in 2013.

I meant to say I can't wait to c "inside llewyn davis"

I can't wait2c this movie cuz my friend is in it! :) she has a small role but she's gonna appear in a couple scenes. =) I don't her the name of the character she plays tho.

What's with the hate against this dude? I've only seen him in Tron, and he was actually pretty good for a lead.
The rest of his movies do look like they were crappy, but jumping from a Walter Salles film to a Coens Brothers film seems like he's getting some good roles, so that might change. : )

"This role called for someone who was really white bread. Pretty much beige in it's blandness. Ethan came up with the idea of having the character also always wear a terrible goatee and walk around with a look on his face that says, "i smell farts". That's when I knew we had to cast Garrett." – Joel Coen

On the Road is a trainwreck, only Kristen Stewart fans obsess over it. It was filmed 2 years ago.

He seems like a pretty good actor and nice enough of a guy, but the creepy goatee in that pic makes his face look really punchable.

Now THIS is a better look for Garrett. 'Akira'… not so much.

I'm presuming Deakins will still be tied up with Skyfall so who will take up the cinematography duties? Is Lubezki available to fill-in again?

Garrett is going big this year with 2 of the most antecipated movies: On The Road and Inside Llewyn Davis. He's really charismatic and a talented actor. And the boy can really sing. Of course A-list directors want him in their movies.

Garrett Hedlund will also be seen in another most anticipated movie of the year, Walter Salles' On the Road. Good for him.
