Here's What ABC's New Series "Georgetown" Would've Looked Like (Condola Rashad, Boris Kodjoe Starred)

If you missed my January 5th profile of up-and-comer Condola Rashad, click HERE to read it and catch up.

In that post, I noted that, among her recent previous work was a starring role in what was to be a new ABC series titled Georgetown (initially known as Inner Circle), first announced in early 2011 as a potential ABC pickup to debut during the 2011/2012 season.

In it, Condola played “an ambitious lesbian journalist reluctantly working the style segment of Website when she’d rather be covering harder news.

The ensemble cast series (which also included Boris Kodjoe) centered on a group of “young and sexy Capitol Hill staffers” – specifically, the young people behind the Washington, DC power brokers. It was described as “a sexy soap.”

A pilot episode was apparently shot last summer, but ABC opted out, and decided NOT to order a full series; I couldn’t find any specific reasons why they changed their minds, so it remains a mystery. Maybe the pilot just wasn’t impressive enough for ABC execs – a pilot episode that I don’t believe ever aired on the network. I couldn’t find any evidence that confirms that it did; I’d think I’d remember a new primetime hour-long drama with at least 2 black leads making its debut, and I don’t.

However, thanks to the fact that I now have Condola Rashad on my alert list, I came across the below 3 1/2 minute compilation of footage from that pilot episode – all featuring Condola’s character of course.

So, if Georgetown was on your list of new TV series to watch, here’s what will likely be your only look at what the show would’ve looked like:

Enough is enough. Why isn't their a Gay Entertainment Television? I am so happy that this show didn't get picked up. I don't want to see all of this perverse imagery of the LGBT Community.

When I saw her name, I wondered if Phylicia Rashad was her mother. I suppose that mom wanted to protect her daughter from the ups and downs of being in the arts. I understand that it's not all sweetness and light–even for a stellar actor/actress like Phylicia Rashad. But the arts run in the family–mother, father (I think so about Amad Rashad), grandmother (at least one) and aunt (Debbie Allen).

She's not great, but she's dynamic on screen. I would've loved to watch this.
Based on her IMDB profile, they've turned it into a tv movie. But I have to wonder, with the reel release, if it will ever see the light of day now.

Condola Rashad is known in the theatre world. She played "Sophie" in Lynn Nottage award-winning play Ruined. She also is a graduate of CalArts. I read somewhere that her mother (Phylicia Rashad) did not want her to pursue acting at first because of scrutiny and damages of the biz.

Saw the NYTimes write up, she is talented and it doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous. The lips and eyes are a deadly combo!
