In Theaters This Weekend: Indie Dramedy "Dysfunctional Friends" + Michael B. Jordan In "Chronicle"

Opening this coming weekend, February 3rd, 2012, are…

First… Corey Grant's comedy/drama Dysfunctional Friends, which premiered at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) in Miami last year, where one of its starring ensemble cast Persia White won the Best Actress Award, will open in limited release in theaters through AMC Independent.

The movie's ensemble cast comprises several names of young Black Hollywood actors and actresses you'll immediately be familiar with, like (other than the aforementioned Persia White) Meagan Good, Tatyana Ali, Essence Atkins, Reagan Gomez, Stacey Dash, Stacy Keibler, Keith Robinson, Jason Weaver, Wesley Jonathan, Vanessa Simmons, and a few others.

NFL pro Terrell Owens also co-stars by the way – in what will be his big screen debut.

Datari Turner, who also produced the film, co-stars as well.

Here's the film's synop:

A Comedy/ Drama reminiscent of The Big Chill, Nine estranged friends are reunited after their larger then life friend unexpectedly dies. The friends who haven't seen each other in years are all forced to stay at their deceased friends estate for the weekend and must reconnect with each other working through all of their issues in order to each collect their inheritance.

The trailer and full poster for the film are at the bottom of this post.

And second…

Directed by Joshua Trank, Chronicle follows the misadventures of three high school buddies who develop uncanny powers after making an incredible discovery. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their darker sides begin to take over.

The film stars Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, and Alex Russell as the teens. Buzz has picked up a bit in recent weeks, and it's currently enjoying a 100% rating on; though with only 6 reviews in thus far. I haven't attended any press screenings for it, so I have no opinions.

And now for some media…

Felt like I saw Dysfunctional Friends on Netflix or something. But it doesn't seem to be very interesting. On the other hand, I would check out Chronicle because I like Michael B. Jordan and screenwriter Max Landis.
