In this week’s Oscar Talk podcast, In Contention’s Kris Tapley, Guy Lodge and I go over Tuesday’s nominations.

After figuring out who comes out ahead, the likely top five, and picking winners in every category, we decide that we want the old five best pictures back.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences determined Friday that it will officially credit four producers, instead of three, for “The Tree of Life.” so where is Johnny Depp for Hugo ‘s producer .his company ‘s logo is after GK .what’s the hell. why they didn’t say any thing? he should be nominated .

I’m curious as to why the IN logo was so prominently shown at the beginning of Hugo, and Johnny’s name was in the credits at the end as one of the producers, yet he’s never mentioned in any of these award nominations–the only two ever mentioned are Scorcese and King.

I don't know what's more wrong? The fact that certain actors were never nominated or that certain films were never nominated. As talented as Max Von Sydow is as an actor especially for his roles in films like Pelle the Conquerer (1987) or Minority Report (2002) but I would not agree for him to be nominated for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011) instead of Albert Brooks for Drive (2011). Michael Fassbender of Shame (2011) was robbed of his well-deserved Best Actor Oscar Nomination instead they chose Demien Bichir for A Better Life (2011). Not Bichir did not deserve it for well-done performance but I think they could have chose better. Hell Leonard DiCaprio was robbed as well for his great performance as J.Edgar Hoover in J.Edgar (2011). Other actors were robbed as well like Oscar Nominee Michael Shannon for Take Shelter (2011) or Oscar Winner Tilda Swinton for We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011). Also there were films that were not nominated like Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) visual effects or cinematography or Tin Tin for Best Animated Feature . Even Dominic Cooper of The Devil's Double (2011) was not noticed by the Academy. Either way middle finger to the Academy voters

Anne, just wanted to take a moment during the busy run-up to the Oscars to thank you for your great work here and on Oscar Talk. You really are the best at what you do. I enjoy your point of view, and I appreciate the intelligence and expertise that backs it up. Thanks!

Do you really feel that Gary Oldman will just have to be gratified to be nominated; that he's not in the game at all? I don't think that at all.
