Last week we saw a mash-up video combining the trailer of Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi tentpole "Prometheus," specifically its music and structure, with scenes from the Pixar classic "Wall-E." We can now officially consider the "Prometheus" parody trailer a meme, as I've now seen two other videos that repurpose old movies for videos using the style of the promos for the new "Alien" prequel. In fact, "Alien" has already been redone with a "Prometheus" parody of its own, one that adds a bit of premature criticism at the end with a spoof of the original film's tagline. The third parody I've come across is for "Spaceballs," which is rather simple. We wonder if only films set in space can qualify?
Really the whole meme itself is a bit of a repeat of what we saw before with the style and music of the "Inception" trailer. It makes sense since the "Prometheus" music, titled "Judge and Jury" and scored by commercial composers Audiomachine (partly referencing the original Jonathan Elias score for the "Alien" spot), has that same Brrrrrrrrrrrmmm noise.
Here are the three versions of the "Prometheus" parody I've seen so far. We'll add any more that come to our attention.
