Image Entertainment and One Village Entertainment will release Robert Townsend’s Diary of a Single Mom (first broadcast on TV One) on DVD on January 10, 2012.
Diary of a Single Mom… (per the press release I received):
… chronicles the seemingly endless challenges and ultimate successes of three urban women struggling to create lives that not only sustain them and their extended families, but also inspire others toward self-determination and compassion in their own lives. In the center of a societal storm is Ocean (Monica Calhoun), a 27-year old, extremely motivated mother who manages a neighborhood apartment building and the myriad problems that come with it. For Ocean, managing the building is a dream realized. Not only has she secured a job with authority and power, she has been able to escape her family’s calumny and the closet-sized confines of the room she and her two children used to share in her mother’s house. In this new life, Ocean finds herself juggling a new job, a new home with only cardboard box decor, a chronically dissatisfied niece, her own two children and the smothering needs of all the other tenants.
In addition to Monica Calhoun, the film stars Leon, Billy Dee Williams, Richard Roundtree, and Valery Ortiz.
If I recall correctly, this started out as a web series in 2009, and then it went to TV One, and now it’s a feature film; and I believe the feature film is just a combination of all the individual episodes into one 86-minute whole.
The DVD disk will run about $15. Trailer below:
