Rosie O'Donnell Would Rather Give Birth To A Flaming Child Than Watch 'Melancholia' Again

Seems everyone was on their crazy pills this week. Contrarian critic Armond White classed up the New York Film Critic’s Circle Awards by heckling the celebs in attendance. How this guy keeps getting taken seriously or invited anywhere is beyond us. But he wasn’t the only one being determinedly classless during the awards season.

The always graceful Rosie O’Donnell was in attendance at the National Board Of Review gala last night, where she presented NBR Freedom of Expression Award to the documentary “Crime After Crime.” She then took hold of her constitutional right and went forth and trashed the winners and nominees, in a pretty no holds barred bit of dramatics, according to IndieWire.

For “Melancholia,” which earned the NBR’s Best Picture honor, she said, “If I had the choice between giving birth to a flaming child on the floor of an igloo, or watching that film again, I would choose the birth of my child.” A very picturesque image. But she didn’t stop there.

“I’m happy to hear that Lars von Trier is not here today. He’s from Denmark. Fuck it, I don’t know where that country is, I’ll never look for him, or Woody Allen. Pedophile? Who’s to say?” she continued in a tirade that also included her disappointment that there were no gift bags at the “crazy-ass black-tie dinner.”

No official statement yet from the folks at the NBR with their thoughts on the evening, but we presume O’Donnell will be persona non grata at the event for the foreseeable future.

I'm a little disappointed you didn't cobble together a picture of Rosie giving birth to blazing baby.

Silly Rosie! Men can't give birth!

I was in attendance at the Gala last night as well. "Melancholia" did NOT earn NBR's Best Picture Award, "Hugo" did. Rosie O'Donnell was actually taking a jab at the New York Film Critic's Circle who named "Melancholia" the top film of 2011. Her line about the lack of gift bags was intended to mock the table centerpieces that were made of free swag from various movies, although everything she said was tongue in cheek and hilarious. Like Ricky Gervais, she is a comedian, so please do not take her speech as a "tirade", it was pure comedy.

"I don't know where that country is"? I see people use this as an "insult" before and I really don't understand how it's an insult, especially considering Denmark isn't an obscure country. I would think saying that would make the insulter sound stupider than the person they're trying to insult.

It's too bad Carnage didn't win anything. She would've really flipped out then. Why the hell should be at an event like this in the first place? What a bitch.

who gives a fuck about Rosie O'Donnell anyway?

very classy. at least learn some geography Rosie

Psssfft! You don't become persona non grata for stuff like that! She'll probably be hosting next year.

You'd think she'd have at least appreciated Kirsten Dunst's breasts? (Which should probably be nominated for biggest surprise or breakout performance)
