As if ABC’s new cross-dressing comedy, Work It, which stars Ben Koldyke and Amaury Nolasco, didn’t already have enough to handle, notably the complaints from LGBT and Human Rights groups about its content, generally bad critical reviews of the show, as well as poor audience reception and word of mouth when it debuted… now this happens.
The below scene from the show in which star Amaury Nolasco, himself a Puerto Rican, delivered the line referenced in the title of this post, which has, naturally, been met with lots of criticism and protest from Latino organizations, calling for the show to be taken off the air.
And based on the combination of all of the above – pissing off LGBT, Human Rights and Latino groups, being badly reviewed by critics, and receiving poor audience ratings – I’d say it’s likely that Work It will soon be going off the air (how often does one TV show manage to upset so many different groups?).
Unless ABC somehow thinks it can use all this controversy to its advantage.
Nah… I think they’ll likely pull the show, or watch advertisers start pulling out, once enough groups threaten to boycott the products made by those advertisers.
I don’t watch much TV, and I’ve definitely not watch any of this show, so I have no opinion of it.
The latest *crime* from the people behind and in front of Work It follows below (hard to believe that Nolasco, himself a Puerto Rican, as already noted, wouldn’t have known how negatively this particular line would’ve been received from members of his own community):
