Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer Just Got A Major Boost In Oscar Competition For Acting Trophies

Well… if recent history is any indication. 

The 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards were handed out last night in Hollywood, and if you’ve been paying attention the last couple of years, you’ll know that, in the acting categories especially, the actors who walk away with Critics’ Choice trophies were also the same actors who walked away with Best Actor Oscars.

So, if that trend continues this year, the 4 winners of last night’s Critics’ Choice acting awards – George Clooney, Viola Davis, Christopher Plummer and Octavia Spencer – just saw their Oscar chances increase significantly.

Clooney and Viola won the Best Actor and Best Actress trophies; Plummer and Octavia Spencer won in the Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories.

So Oscar night next month could be a coup for The Help, and for the actresses.

By the way, The Help won the award for Best Acting Ensemble. Doesn’t mean much for its Best Picture chances though.
