Sorry but I don't think War Horse is getting any credit whatsoever. Sure it had its cheesy moments, but the cinematography was incredible. The storyline as well was thought provoking and something that really sticks with you, horse lover or not. I've seen list of the movies and War Horse jumped out at me as one of the most deserving. Not sire if it OS going to win best picture but it definitly deserves this award and others!

Roxanne I.

…and the winner is Tree of Life!

Are you kidding me…for Cinematography, it has to be Tree of Life if there is any justice. This film may have been as boring as possible for about 90% of the time but it sure was beautiful to look at.

I just love The Artist

Alberto Iglesias will pick the prize for best original score. It´s amazing! Good luck, Alberto!

Transformers Dark of the Moon should win sound mixing, sound editing, and visual effects, it blows away all the other nominees, there is no contest when it comes to transformers, but i bet it won't win any, because it's a Michael Bay film, the academy is nothing but a bunch of biased bastards

I wrote a long thing about this years nominees for best score, but it said that is was spam so there you go!!!

Lubezki better win for cinematography or I'm gonna be pissed

Look to the Guilds. ASC says it is the Tree of Life, not Hugo.
But you knew that.

I really hope Dragon Tattoo wins something, though I doubt it will.

Common Sense

It makes me sick to think that The Tree of Life might not win Cinematography. It deserves it the most in my opinion.

Man or Muppet should absolutely win best original song, and "The Muppets" should win Best Picture b/c the films were weak this year.

Best supporting actor.

Nick Nolte/Warrior

My picks:

Cinematography: The Tree of Life.
Costume Design: The Artist.
Film Editing: The Artist.
Make Up: The Iron Lady.
Music: The Artist.
Song: The Muppets.
Sound Editing: Transformers.
Sound Mixing: Transformers.
Special Effects: Harry Potter.

Michael Davenport

the score for 'The Artist' is right up there (in my opinion) with 'The Kings Speech' 'There Will Be Blood' and 'Inception' incredible!

These are the technical categories, so why is everyone judging the nominations based on the quality of the film?

New Best Costume Design- Jane Eyre, Midnight in Paris, The Tree of Life, Hugo, Drive

Best Costume Desgn- Jane Eyre, The Help, The Tree of Life, Drive, Hugo

art direction- Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Hugo, War Horse, The Artist, Super 8

Best Cinematography- The Tree of Life, Hugo, Drive, The Artist, The Adventures of Tintin (if Avatar can win this category, Tintin deserves nomination)

Best Visual Effects— Rise of the Planet of the apes, Tree of Life, Hugo, POTC:On Stranger Tides, Harry Potter (DH2)

best editing this year…. The Tree of Life, Drive, Contagion, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Source Code

bullshit, as excellent a film composer as Howard Shore is, there is no way in the world that The Artist should not win Best Score. Anyone with ears the diameter of a cue tip can hear the difference between the two.

I really don't know why Tree of Life isn't predicted for Best Cinematography. Even people who hated that movie (such as myself), as well as those in some respective art field, will agree that that is something which was done extremely well.

Whoever doesn't vote for The Tree of Life for best cinematography should get kicked out of the Academy.

There are plenty of Harry Potter d*** riders on this site. Go watch some real cinema.

What the hell? Transformers doesn't even deserve nominations in technical categories.

I'm sorry, but Harry Potter deserves nominations AND WINS in all of these awards, except, of course, best original song. It would be ok if it does not get nominated for costume design, but it deserves recognition in all the others. And, again i'm sorry, but whoever wrote the predictions for original music did not see HP7 part 2. That was an AMAZING score.

Yngve Horvei

If they think everything good about Harry Potter is visual effects and make up, they are terribly wrong!

wait, can't "The Artist" not win best original score because parts of its score was from other movies. A similar thing happened to "Black Swan" last year for using one song that was not original

Best Original Score should go to Tintin.
And Harry Potter Deserves to win some Oscars after such a wonderful, and powerful series turnout. Such complex, beautiful and layered films. Such Great powerhouse performances-Alan Rickman !!!

Harry Potter needs to win. it is legend.

I agree with all of the NO. 1's above

Hugo has everything except sound. It got all technical noms at the BAFTAs including sound. WHY IS THE ARTIST GETTING SOUND! THERE WAS ALMOST NO SOUND

Warrior. Best film. best supporting actor. hands down. I can't believe Warrior isn't getting attention for being the amazing film it is. I'm so pissed at the Academy for this one.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" is too good not to get some technical nominations. Art Direction, Cinematography, Costumes, etc. It's an amazing re-creation of 19th century England!

I don't understand. Can someone explain how The Artist is getting sound nominations?

You are all idiots, non of you has even mention Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, SHAME ON YOU!

Best and amazing make-up is in Iron Lady.

W.E. should get at least 4 nominations,
best suporting actress, best original song, best original score, best costume design!
BUT, as the movie director is Madonna, nothing of this will be possible!

Best Makeup: J. EDGAR.

Midnight in Paris will get some technical nominations. I think 5 or 6 noms total.

My vote? Imaginary Friends from the movie "Olive".

Pictures in my Head for the win! That song packed so much emotion with a dash of humor. A modern Muppets classic.

OMG!!! harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 is such a good movie!!!! in my not so humble opinion that movie should be predicted to be nominated for way more awards!!! they need to win and be honored!!!! i mean this is the highest grossing movie of all time people! its the end of the world wide phenomenon!!!

In my opinion(and keep in mind im a huge NIN fan) there is no way girl with the dragon tattoo wont win the award for original score….i mean….ive listened to the social networks soundtrack alot…and to be frank…..i think girl with the dragon tattoo blows it out of the water. just the feel the girl with the dragon tattoo gives you…it cant be described. its like a movie within a movie. If this score is better than one that won last year then i believe it should clear as day be the winner.

about foreign movie: where do we go now ? Declaration of War, in darkness are the best movie in this year .deserve to Oscar.why didn't nominated for golden globe ,did they see ithem?it was a big mistake .hey shouldn't choice for policy .

Personally I'd say Best Cinematography is a tossup between Tree of Life and War Horse, and much as I loved War Horse my money's on Tree of Life. For editing, Tree of Life or Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; for original score, definitely Dragon Tattoo; for visual effects, either Rise of the Planet of the Apes or Super 8, though I haven't seen Hugo.

I'm liking that Best Sound Editing, Mixing, and Best Visual Effects all included "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol." It was [in my opinion] an amazing movie to watch, hear, and experience [twice.]
Hoping it wins (even if unlikely) in one category.

Movies are visual literature, an opportunity for people to experience something singly or communially.

…… the oscars were invented to promote films as a business.

You want something more fair and impartial………………………then perhaps try Rotten Tomatoes .

Do you go with the critics or anyone?

Like wine. If you like it……..Great. Even if its red wine with chicken.

The Artist? Really? This awards show is a joke. Enough with the artsy fartsy crap, the box office tells the real story as to what good "movies" are and the money they make is the best reward they can get.

Atiya Spence

How in the hell is Captain America nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects?. There's nothing great about it. Enough said.

It's not Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon. It's Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Jess know before you write.

how is Hanna not predicted for any of the nominations!? it was probably my favorite movie of the year and the soundtrack my the chemical brothers definitely needs some recognition. The music suited the whole feel of the movie so well. Hanna needs to be on this list somewhere.

No way ! Alan Rickman pleeeease !

worst predictions for score i have ever seen. how can reznor and atticus win last year and not even make it in the top five this year???? the social networks score was amazing, but i have to admit dragon tatto is up there. it at least deserves a nom if not a win. the music went with the movie perfectly, and really set the dark erie tone for the movie. great job reznor and atticus.

THESE PREDICTIONS SUCK!!!!!!!!! Alan Rickman deserves Oscars for his role as Snape! muggles-_-

For Cinematography: I feel like "The Help" should receive this award, or "War Horse" granted I haven't seen this film, the Cinematography seemed pretty incredible!

For Visual Effects: I feel like "Super 8" surpassed any movie in the category! If any other movie would win this it would have to be "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"

melancholia has the best cinematography i think..

" j. edgar " would be a lock if they had a category for worst make up. what they did
to dicaprio and hammer was criminal and made a joke of the movie.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2's score was amazing.

The girl with the dragon tatoo has amazing editing, score and cynematography.

Moneyball had really good editing. 4 seems low, but this isn't about what should win, It's about what will

The oscars released the visual effects 10 consideration picks and super 8 isn't on, so I guess the Tree of Life will get the nom it deserves hopefully.

I thought the editing in Warrior was pretty good

I am so sick and tired of the Academy ignoring Harry Potter. This film deserves nominations in several categories. The Caliber of the Actors in incredible: Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Jim Broadbant, Daniel Radcliffe, Helena Bonham-Carter The special effects were amazing, the SET designs are bloody brilliant. The attention to detail is astounding in the sets. The acting was top notch and it was a truly wonderful film. I understand that the big moneymakers usually aren't what gets an award, but this film deserves it. If it doesn't get nominated for either best picture or best supporting actor/actress, then I will lose all faith in the academy.

Gaarh, the absence of Harry Potter on these lists upsets me so much!

it surprises me tht zack snyder films are never up for visual effects. whether or not you like his films, sucker punch in particular was hated among many. it had undeniably great special effects. to see it's not in your view of the top ten is surprising.

Better take a second look at 'Midnight in Paris,' IndieWire. Absolutely a leading contender for art direction, costume design, cinematography, and makeup.

Guys…Harry Potter is the best film series of all times, didn't know it?Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 deserves much more.Alexandre Desplat must be in the Best Original Song category."Lily's Theme" , "Coutryard Apocalypse" and "Statues" deserves that category.

I think it is pretty much a given that Rise of the Planet of the Apes will win best visual effects , when it comes to visuals effects Weta Digital is the best of the best, those apes were absolutely incredible.

I completely agree with Rod when it comes to sountracks. Super 8 had far and away the best original score this year. The same could have been said for How to Train Your Dragon last year, which sadly lost to the Social Network. Though it fit the film perfectly, three notes repeated over and over again for 5 minutes is not a score. Then again, I'm not surprised as the Academy continues to embarass itself in that category.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is not a 'consideration' for best original score, it will win

How is "Sherlock Holmes" not at least in the running for some of these?? Particularly Film Editing

Yes yes yes to Harry Potter, everyone knows the story, the film and the cast deserve this award! HP all the way!

Harry Potter deserves more!

Hopefully War Horse wins best score. It deserves it.

we all the girl with the dragon tatoo will win best score

I'm surprised not to see Melancholia get a look in for art direction. The opening 'oveture' was one of the most visually striking sequences I've seen in modern cinema. As for sound editing I thought an obvious nomination was for We Need To Talk About Kevin. The combination of the creepy real world sounds (Kevin's nail biting for instance I thought was extraordinarily captured), with Jonny Greenwood's unsettling otherworldly score and the jukebox songs created an incredibly haunting atmosphere where the audience can really understand the thoughts of Tilda Swinton's fantastic Eva.

Just my two cents.

Sherlock Holmes 2 was not a very good film, but I thought for sure I'd see some noms in these categories. Seriously, the editing and cinematography were incredible in this movie (not to mention the costumes, which were convincing for a period piece.) There is one scene in particular that I thought would make SH2 a shoo-in for nomination, in the least.

No love for Drive's soundtrack? I thought it was immense and worked incredibly well with the film

no Drive? are you fuckin kidding me?

I think Harry Potter can easily get the Oscar for the Best visual effects. The Artist is gonna be the big winner of the Oscars for 2012. Such a different movie.

Have the people making these predictions heard "Statues", "Underworld", "Courtyard Apocalypse", or "Lily's Theme"? Alexandre Desplat is a musical genius and he deserves to win here.

A. O. Zeta

When it comes to oscar "worthy" music expect to be suprised. I feel like they just copycat the other award shows, same winners. The Social Network was a discoed up, repetative peice of junk. I would have never bought that album on its own and would have never considered it. Tron was WAY BETTER, and still is. I don't know if he should win, but Micheal Giacchino has a good one on his hands. The minute I heard the Super 8 suite in the theater I just had to grab that album. John Williams just seems a solid lock for getting oscar nods, just changing things here and there from his Harry Potter era, but Tin Tin didn't stand out to me. Havn't heard the rest of "the list." We will see.

The music in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was the only thing bad about that movie. I hate Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross's music. I hated it in The Social Network too. I can't believe it won. 127 Hours deserved to win. If they win again this year, I'll puke.

peter wolf

The Artist. It's a no-brainer.

What about "Masterpiece" by: Madonna for W.E.? Very good song. Got a Golden Globe nod…

How does Warrior not get nominated for sound editing? That makes no sense.

Alan Rickman is amazing!

Where is Alan Rickman? He should be one of the top five on the best suppoting actor list! He did a fantisic job in Harry Potter andhedeathy hallows part 2. I also think that HP 7 part 2 shold get the best ake oscar! Seriously they topped all those listed! But we shall see who ges the oscars.

J edgar for Best make up???? Hahahahha your a fool

I've seen The Artist, and there is absolutely nothing remarkable about either its cinematography or its editing. In the former category it should be The Tree of Life, Melancholia and Another Earth fighting it out.

Micah Mahaffey

I think Super 8 should have way more nominations! It was a masterpiece!

have you all forget about HANNA ?

I know this probably doesn't matter, I'm a big Pink Floyd fan myself, but the film is 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' not 'Dark Side of the Moon'.

A. O. Zeta

I think Warrior deserves a mention for Cinematography.
