I found this fascinating enough to share… I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I’ve never really given it much thought. This from the Kickstarter blog:
It’s been a truly amazing year for film on Kickstarter. 17 Kickstarter-funded films went to Sundance, where many were picked up for distribution, won awards, floored critics, and inspired audiences across the snow.
Next month, 31 Kickstarter-funded films are headed to SXSW! Check them out on our SXSW Curated Page, and please join us in congratulating these wonderful filmmakers on their accomplishments! We could not be more proud. See you in Austin!
A sign of the times certainly; what’s come to be labeled “crowdfunding,” and Kickstarter is at the forefront.
A week doesn’t go by without me receiving several emails from filmmakers with Kickstarter campaigns that they’d like me to post here. I obviously can’t post everyone; if I did, every other post will be a Kickstarter campaign. I’ve been trying to come up with some kind of system just for those fundraising posts. But I haven’t yet. So, we just judge each one individually, and post those that are attractive to us.
Kickstarter is not a public company, but I’m curious to know what their balance sheet looks like.
