The films of the New Voices In Black Cinema Festival begin today February 17th through the 20th at BAM Rose Cinemas in Brooklyn, NY. On deck in the primetime spot tonight is The Tested, a popularly covered film here on S&A.
As Tambay described recently, The Tested is based on an award-winning 2005 short film of the same name by Russell Costanzo and can be summarized as the long -term ramifications of a single tragic event. A New York City cop accidentally kills an unarmed African American teenager (increasingly topical); the film’s plot then picks up a year after the incident, as we follow the lives of 3 people linked to the incident – the cop, the victim’s mother and the victim’s brother – and the different paths each take, ultimately leading all three of them back to one another, and eventual redemption.
You can see our most recent post HERE, which includes Tambay’s interview with Costanzo.
The film stars Aunjanue Ellis, Armando Riesco, and Michael Morris Jr. and will screen at the New Voices In Black Cinema Film Festival twice: Friday Feb 17 at 6:50pm & Sunday February 19 at 2pm.
A Q&A with director Costanzo and actors Aunjanue Ellis, & Michael Morris will follow the Friday screening, so you should be there! Tix can be found a HERE.
But for now, watch this exclusive clip from the film below in which James, played by transformative actor Tobias Truvillion (Hitch, ‘One Life To Live’), lays the truth down on Dre (Michael Morris Jr.) The clip is also available on YouTube
