Oscilloscope Laboratories Gets In Bed With The Brooklyn Brothers, Plays With Children’s Instruments
New York, NY (February 8, 2012)—Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that it has acquired all North American rights to THE BROOKLYN BROTHERS BEAT THE BEST, the debut feature from writer/director/star Ryan O’Nan, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and its US premiere last week at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The film will be released in theaters later this year.
TBBBTB follows underachiever Alex (O’Nan), recently dumped by his girlfriend, as he embarks on an impromptu road trip with his new bandmate, the eccentric Jim (Michael Weston). By channeling their inner children and giving a new meaning to the term “lo-fi,” Alex and Jim find their unique style by bringing the sound of children's instruments to their unexpecting fans. Playing a series of bizarre shows and experiencing multiple near-disasters, Alex and Jim’s persistence takes them on a true coming-of-age journey – one that may be their last shot at achieving their childhood dreams.
TBBBTB will have a multi-city theatrical release accompanied by a number of live performances by The Brooklyn Brothers, the film-inspired band consisting of O’Nan and Weston. A multi-platform digital and DVD release (as well as a soundtrack album released through Rhino) will follow.
Of the acquisition, O’Nan said, "I truly couldn't be happier with Brooklyn Brothers finding its home with Oscilloscope. I feel very lucky to have my film be with such a great team. O-Scope reminds me of my favorite record labels I grew up with in the music scene, the great indie labels I could always count on to sign interesting new bands and pour creativity into everything that surrounded the marketing and product as well."
TBBBTB stars Ryan O’Nan, Michael Weston, and Arielle Kebbel, with Melissa Leo, Andrew McCarthy, Christopher McDonald, Jason Ritter, and Wilmer Valderrama. It was produced by Jason Michael Berman and Kwesi Collisson and executive produced by Ruth Mutch, Sergio Agüero, Thomas B. Fore, Sandra R. Berman, and Mark G. Mathis.
The deal was negotiated by David Fenkel on behalf of Oscilloscope and International Creative Management and attorneys Larry Weinberg and Robert Fyvolent on behalf of the filmmakers. Berman, O’Nan, and Ritter are represented by International Creative Management. International rights are being represented by Eric Christenson of Hollywood Studios International, with the film screening this week at the European Film Market.
