Samantha Morton & Amy Adams Line Up Untitled Spike Jonze Romance Starring Joaquin Phoenix & Carey Mulligan

Update: Okay, so this isn’t the political satire at all. Instead, it’s a Jonze-penned romance that first started bubbling to life last summer, that follows a man who falls in love with a Siri-like computer voice. Joaquin Phoenix and Carey Mulligan are also attached to this project, with Amy Adams and Samantha Morton now looking to come aboard as well. Either way, it sounds great.

It has been three, far too long years since Spike Jonzes last feature film, the wonderful “Where The Wild Things Are” and while various videos and shorts he’s done in the interim — including “I’m Here” and “Scenes From The Suburbs” — were nice holdovers, we’re glad that his next movie, penned by Charlie Kaufman, appears to be taking shape. First announced over a year ago, Megan Ellison and her Annapurna shingle got things rolling by backing the project and over 2011 Joaquin Phoenix and Carey Mulligan came aboard. Now, two more great actresses appear to be boarding the film.

Deadline reports that Samantha Morton and Amy Adams are eyeing roles in the project that remains tightly under wraps. For Morton, it’s a return to Kaufman’s weird world, as she starred in his directorial debut “Synecdoche, New York” while it will be Adams’ first time working with either the writer or director. The actual plot isn’t known, but it’s reportedly a satire about world leaders who gather to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the world, from oil prices to wars that will be waged. And knowing Kaufman, that’s probably only a fraction of what’s going on.

Last we heard a spring shoot was in the works, and we presume that’s still the case. If so, that means we’ll be getting new films from both Jonze and Kaufman (he’s helming the developing “Frank Or Francis,” another project he’s written) very soon, and hopefully right around the same time. 2013 is already looking very promising.

Apparently this isn't what we thought it was – from an update to the Deadline article: "Sources tell me that the project that Morton, Adams and Mulligan and Phoenix are doing was written by Spike Jonze himself, and not Charlie Kaufman. The film is about a guy who falls in love with the voice of a computer, similar to the Siri feature on the new iPhone." –

Carey Mulligan has now worked with some of the best directors in the biz. She just needs to meet with Scorsese and Chris Nolan, and she can retire happy!

According to Deadline, all three actresses are circling? Are you getting Carey's casting confused with the Coen Bros. film?
